Amazon today added a new Echo model to its family of smart speakers. The Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition is now official. It's available for pre-order in blue, green, and red color options, and it'll launch on May 9.
The Echo Dot Kids Edition features the same puck-like design of the regular Echo Dot, but it's got a colorful case to help protect it. It also comes with a two-year worry-free guarantee that says that if your kids break the Echo Dot Kids Edition, you can return it and get a new one for free. Amazon also includes one year of FreeTime Unlimited with the Echo Dot Kids Edition. This service includes access to more than 13,000 kid-friendly books, educational apps, games, movies, and TV shows. Parents can use the online Parent Dashboard to review their kids activity with the Echo Dot, set daily time limits, and filter explicit songs from Amazon Music. Parents will be relieved to hear that voice shopping is disabled with the Echo Dot Kids Edition, and Alexa even provides positive feedback when kids ask questions and use the word "please". The idea of an Echo Dot Kids Edition may seem silly at first, but it actually looks like an interesting device for children. They can interact with it to ask questions, use educational tools, and even reinforce some manners, and parents don't need to worry about their kids going on a voice-powered spending spree or hearing explicit music.
