Amazon will soon be purchasing Ring, a company that sells smartphone-connected doorbells with video cameras built in. This deal is reportedly going to cost Amazon over $1 billion. The acquisition makes perfect sense for both companies. Amazon generally allows acquired companies to continue operating as normal, but Ring will now have Amazon's resources available to it. Amazon gets another smart company to bolster its smart home offerings, something which both Amazon and Google have been pushing hard. There's also Amazon Key, a delivery service that allows a delivery person to enter your home to drop packages off with the aid of a camera and a support smart lock. Ring's products and expertise could make this service safer and easier. While we likely won't see the fruits of this acquisition for now, we expect Amazon to take full advantage of owning Ring in the future. Android Match
