Google has been working on adopting Rich Communication Services (RCS) for quite some time now, rolling out the feature in Android Messages and getting initial support from the likes of Sprint. Now a few more retail business can take advantage of the initiative, too. Today Google announced that it is partnering with select businesses to bring more robust multimedia messaging via RCS to Android users. Only a few businesses are offering support right now, including Subway, DHL, Booking.com, 1-800-Flowers, and 1-800-Contacts. Google confirmed that more businesses will be added to the mix in the future. You will need to be using the stock Android Messages app to take advantage of this feature. With RCS support, businesses will be able to send more detailed texts which can be multimedia rich in content. That means instead of just getting a bland string of text confirming a hotel room has been booked, Booking.com can send you a picture of your room, the address, and more, all in a single message. Google also reaffirmed that it has been working with Sprint in the United States with RCS support and that the feature will be rolling out to Mexico in a short period of time. RCS support has been something Google has been working on for quite some time now, and it doesn't look like it's giving up on the initiative any time soon. That's good as long as other companies jump on the bandwagon, too. Huawei, for instance, has recently announced that it will adopt the stock Android Messages app and RCS support in its future devices. Android Match
