Verizon Smart Family lets parents limit screen time and more
Verizon has had its FamilyBase service in place for quite some time, but today the wireless carrier has decided give the service a fresh new look and add new features.
Today Verizon announced that it is updating FamilyBase to Verizon Smart Family. The app will be getting a refreshed user interface which should make it easier to use.
For parents, Smart Family will be able to handle a variety of duties, including limiting screen time by "pausing the internet" on the device. The app will also make it possible for parents to keep tabs on phone calls and text message activity. Parents can set content filters, too. These features are available in the standard version of Smart Family, which will cost $4.99 per month.
Upgrading to Smart Family Premium will enable GPS tracking, letting parents know right where their kids are in real-time. The app will also send out an alert if the kid moves out of a predesignated target area. Smart Family Premium will cost $9.99 per month, but there will be a 30-day free trial available.
Verizon's new Smart Family service is available beginning today, April 19.
