Samsung Galaxy S8 revealed in new photo

Samsung hasn't made the Galaxy S8 official just yet, but the rumor mill has worked pretty hard to reveal just about everything it can regarding the next flagship, leading up to a new photo revealing the handset out in the wild.

VentureBeat has published a photo that allegedly shows both the front and back of the upcoming Galaxy S8, along with plenty of supplemental information. As previously rumored, the new handsets will feature larger displays than previous Galaxy S-branded devices, and there won't be the familiar navigation buttons on the front of the handset, either.

According to the report, there will be two variants of the Galaxy S8, one with a 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED display and one with a 6.2-inch QHD Super AMOLED panel, both of which cover 83% of the front panel. They are both "edge" displays, which will curve over the edge of the handset like we've seen in previous models.

The report indicates that Samsung will take a familiar route with the processor decision, opting to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor in some units while going with a Samsung Exynos in other regions. They will both be outfitted with a USB Type-C port.

The handsets will boast 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, with the microSD card slot supporting cards up to 256GB. The battery in the 5.8-inch model is said to be 3000mAh, while the battery equipped in the larger 6.2-inch variant is said to be 3500mAh. The Galaxy S8 will apparently have stereo speakers at the bottom, and there will indeed be a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The report indicates that the Galaxy S8 variants will have a 12-megapixel camera on the back, and an 8-megapixel shooter on the front. That front-facing camera will feature iris-scanning capabilities, like the Galaxy Note 7, and there is a fingerprint reader on the back of the handset (next to the camera, not beneath it). That rear camera will also be able to help with visual searches, too, with icons to help the owner choose what type of search they want to run (from a shopping site, Google, or other apps).

The report notes that Samsung's onboard artificial intelligence, Bixby, will indeed be present, and that, as previously rumored, there will be an HDMI-equipped dock called DeX, which will allow owners to plug the Galaxy S8 into it and use it like a computer, with keyboard and mouse support.

Finally, if the information gathered by the publication pans out, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S8 at its own Unpacked event on March 29.

Are you looking forward to the Galaxy S8?
