LG G6 rumored to include Snapdragon 821 processor

The Snapdragon 835 processor is expected to be the go-to chip for companies launching high-end, flagship Android smartphones this year. But according to a new report from Forbes, LG won't be launching its upcoming G6 with the Snapdragon 835. Instead, it will have a Snapdragon 821 under the hood, and it apparently has everything to do with Samsung.

The report indicates that Samsung "has first dibs" on the Snapdragon 835, claiming the lion's share of available 835 chips for the Galaxy S8's launch and forcing other companies to go with last year's flagship Snapdragon processor instead. The Galaxy S8 is rumored to launch on April 14 in South Korea and LG's G6 is expected to be revealed on February 26, with a launch sometime in March.

Today's report suggests that Samsung's partnership with Qualcomm, in which Samsung is helping Qualcomm build the SD 835, could explain why Samsung is hoarding the chip for itself until after its own flagship smartphone launch.

We've already seen HTC launch the U Ultra this year with the Snapdragon 821 under the hood, but HTC has also suggested that handset is just one member of a "family of flagships," so maybe we see another high-end device from HTC later this year with Qualcomm's latest chipset running the show.
