BlackBerry has mentioned a number of times it plans to move away from manufacturing and hardware and focus on its software products from now on. However, that doesn't mean we won't see new BlackBerry branded smartphones in the near future. Not by a long shot.

Chinese company TCL will now be in charge of manufacturing future BlackBerry device. Come CES 2017, the device maker will showcase the next-gen Berries. According to the rumor mill the BlackBerry Mercury is one of the devices which will see the light of day during the event.

The phone is said to come with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display but also an iconic QWERTY keyboard. Don't expect the Mercury to be a premium affair, as the device will carry middle-range specifications.

These include the above mentioned 4.5-inch display with unknown resolution, but also an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor working hand in hand with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The phone will be getting its juice from a 3,400 mAh battery and will run Android 7.0 Nougat onboard. It will also rock a fingerprint scanner hidden in the space bar.

So if LG's upcoming middle-range Nougat phones, the K10 and K8 won't do it for you, you'll also have the option to grab the BlackBerry Mercury. The device is said to be the last phone to be designed in-house by BlackBerry.
