Not so long ago, a leak coming to us via @evleaks revealed Google plans to unveil two smartwatches with Android Wear 2.0 in Q1 2017. Back then we assumed, the intelligent timepieces will probably feature the Google or Pixel brand, but the latest information reveals this won't be the case. In an interview with The Verge, Google has confirmed that two Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches are indeed coming. However, the devices will be built in partnership with a third party manufacturers, pretty much like the Nexus family. Google is going to announce new hardware partners at CES 2017, next month. On top of the two wearables, Google will roll out the Android Wear 2.0 update for most Android smartwatches. Here's the complete list of devices scheduled to get the new build: - Moto 360 Gen 2
- Moto 360 Sport
- LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE
- LG Watch Urbane
- LG G Watch R
- Polar M600
- Casio Smart Outdoor Watch
- Nixon Mission
- Tag Heuer Connected
- Fossil Q Wander
- Fossil Q Marshal
- Fossil Q Founder
- Michael Kors Access Bradshaw Smartwatch
- Michael Kors Access Dylan Smartwatch
- Huawei Watch
- Huawei Watch Ladies
- Asus ZenWatch 2
- Asus ZenWatch 3
As you'd expect, Android Wear 2.0 is going to bring some new features to the table. Updated smartwatches will be able to run independent app and get Google Assistant and Android Pay support (only select models with NFC onboard). While popularity of smartwatches is going down the drain, Google is doing everything in its power to renew the appeal of Android Wear. We'll see how Google's own slew of smartwatches will do, once it arrives on the market.
