HTC U12+ Plus official; 6-inch display, Edge Sense 2, and more

The HTC U12+ is official and packs a spec list that puts it in direct competition with the best smartphones on the market. The highlight of the device is its 6-inch 2880×1440 display with an 18:9 widescreen aspect ratio, perfect for watching videos and viewing photos. The display is noticeably notch-free and the rest of the device follows an attractive design, with HTC's gorgeous Liquid Surface glass covering the back of the device. A Translucent Blue color option allows users a peek at the internals of their smartphone through the light-bending glass. HTC is also offering a more traditional Ceramic Black option and a bold Flame Red color choice.

HTC is also boasting its Edge Sense 2 technology, which builds on the pressure-sensitive controls that HTC built into the Google Pixel 2. Edge Sense 2 can sense which hand is being used and users can double tap to shrink the on-screen activity into the corner where their thumb is, allowing them to easily use the large device with one hand. Additionally, users can hold the sides to lock the screen orientation or squeeze the phone to take photos or videos, zoom in on maps, bring up the Google Assistant, or take advantage of a myriad of other customizable actions.

The full specs list includes:

  • 6-inch 2880×1440 display (18:9 ratio)
  • 2.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor
  • 6GB RAM
  • 64GB/128GB storage plus microSD card slot
  • 12-megapixel wide angle rear camera (1.4µm pixel size, f/1.75) + 16-megapixel telephoto rear camera (1.0µm pixel size, f/2.6) with 2x optical zoom, 10x digital zoom, OIS, UltraSpeed Autofocus 2, and HDR Boost 2
  • Dual 8-megapixel front-facing cameras (1.12µm pixel size, f/2.0) with 84-degree wide angle view
  • 3500mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0
  • HTC BoomSound speakers and USonic earbuds with active noise cancellation
  • Edge Sense 2
  • Android 8.0 Oreo with guaranteed Android P update
  • IP68 dust and water resistance

It's worth noting that the HTC U12+ received a DxOMark score of 103, the highest score ever given to a dual camera smartphone and overall second only to the Huawei P20 Pro, which features three cameras designed by Leica. HTC-U12-Plus-Side

HTC isn't holding back and the U12+ will likely be one of the best devices of 2018. The true test will be for HTC to get the U12+ into the hands of consumers, as the company has struggled with lackluster sales in recent years. The company is selling the unlocked U12+ through its website for $799 and the device is fully compatible with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile's networks in the U.S.

What do you think about the HTC U12+? Are you willing to purchase one?
