If you have NVIDIA's SHIELD TV and have been hoping you'd get a taste of Android 8.0 Oreo some day soon, well, the wait is (almost) over. NVIDIA officially announced on Thursday that the SHIELD TV is being upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo beginning today, tagging along with the SHIELD Experience 7.0 software update. The company is quick to point out that this is a "staged upgrade", however, so the full rollout will take place over the coming weeks. The over-the-air (OTA) update technically goes live today, but it might be a bit before you see it pop up on your device. When you do get the upgrade, NVIDIA is throwing in quite a few new things and tweaking the experience to make all of your content easier to find right from the new home screen. That includes the ability to choose your favorite apps and customize their location on the home screen. The SHIELD TV also supports "Play Next", which means you can continue where you left off in a TV Show, movie, or games — as long as they support the feature. There are other changes, including being able to hold the Back button while on the home screen and jump right into the Settings menu. The ability to connect to a Wi-Fi network without disconnecting the Ethernet cable. And the latest monthly Android security updates are also included with this update as well.
