Sprint Unlimited 55+ plan is now official

Last month, it was rumored that Sprint was planning to launch its own special plan for customers that are 55 years or older. Expectations were that Sprint was going to launch the new plan in May, and it turns out that is indeed the case.

Sprint on Thursday officially announced that beginning Friday, May 18, customers that are 55 or older can sign up for the Unlimited 55+ plan, which will offer two lines for $35 each per month with unlimited talk, text, and data. Customers will need to have autopay switched on to get the discounted monthly rate, with the first line priced at $50 per month, and the second set at $20 per month.

The Now Network is including its Global Roaming feature, too, which means customers can enjoy "text and basic data for no additional charge in more than 185 worldwide destinations". What's more, the new Unlimited 55+ plan also offers unlimited mobile hotspot usage, albeit at 3G speeds. And there are caps on streaming, with video streams topped at "480p+" resolution, music streams up to 500kbps, and streaming cloud gaming at 2Mbps. If you want to bump those caps up, you can pay an additional $10 per month, per line, to increase video streams up to 1080p, music streams to 1.5Mbps, and cloud gaming up to 8Mbps. It will also add 10GB of 4G LTE high-speed data for mobile hotspot, and then revert to 2GB speeds if you pass the 10GB limit.

Interestingly enough, Sprint says this offer is only available for a limited time, so it doesn't sound like Unlimited 55+ will be sticking around for a while.
