Huawei unveils the P20 and P20 Pro

Huawei  teased the unveiling of its newest smartphones last month, and now the company has gone ahead and officially unveiled two new devices.

Huawei today lifted the curtain on its newest flagship phones: the P20 and the P20 Pro. The two handsets share a lot of common elements in the specifications department, with the primary change being the screen size and number of cameras. The P20 Pro also stands out for two of the color options that Huawei is offering.

First up: the P20 (pictured above). This handset has a 5.8-inch RGBW LCD display with a notch and a resolution of 2240×1080. Under the hood, the Huawei P20 utilizes a Kirin 970 processor which is paired with 4GB of RAM. The P20 has 128GB of built-in storage, a battery that measures in at 3400mAh, and it's running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box underneath Huawei's proprietary EMUI 8.1 user interface.

On the back, the P20 has two cameras. The first is a 20-megapixel monochrome shooter with an aperture of f/1.6 while the second is a 12-megapixel RGB sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. There is a 24-megapixel camera on the front of the P20.

Finally, the P20 has a fingerprint reader that's on the front of the phone, below the display. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, and the handset does not support wireless charging. It does offer face recognition, though, and it is IP53-rated for splash resistance.

The P20 is available globally with a price of €649 in Europe (about $805 USD).

The Huawei P20 Pro ups the ante in many ways compared to the P20. This handset has a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2440×1080. Huawei installed a Kirin 970 processor in the device along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. The battery measures in at 4000mAh and it's running Android 8.1 Oreo with Huawei's EMUI 8.1 user interface. There is no headphone jack and no wireless charging, but there is a fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone below the display. It is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance.

The standout feature for the P20 Pro are its three rear cameras. The first is a 40MP RGB camera with an aperture of f/1.8, while the second is a 20MP mono shooter with an f/1.6 aperture, and the last is an 8MP telephoto with optical image stabilization and an f/2.4 aperture. The same 24MP front-facing camera on the P20 is present on the P20 Pro.

The P20 Pro's other standout feature is the two gradient color schemes it offers: Twilight and Pink Gold (with the former offering a combination of blue and purple).

The P20 Pro will be available globally at a price of €899 (around $1,115).
