LG G7 ThinQ makes official debut with a focus on AI and audio

We've gotten a pretty good idea of what the LG G7 ThinQ is all about thanks to several leaks and teasers that've come up in recent weeks, but today LG revealed everything that makes its new flagship tick.

The LG G7 ThinQ is now official. Like the V30S ThinQ before it, the G7 ThinQ places a focus on AI features. LG says that the AI CAM feature will analyze what you're pointing a camera at and recommend the best shooting mode of its 19 available. The phone will also use an AI algorithm to adjust camera settings to get you a brighter shot in low light.

LG is also utilizing Google Assistant to add some more smarts to its flagship. The G7 ThinQ has a dedicated Google Assistant button that you can press once to launch the Assistant or press and hold to start talking. You can also press the button twice to launch Google Lens, which lets you point your camera at a landmark, animal, book, or other object to learn more about it.

If you'd prefer to just talk to the Google Assistant, you can do that, too. LG says that the G7 ThinQ's Super Far Field Voice Recognition will let the phone hear you from up to five meters away.

Another major focus of the LG G7 ThinQ is its audio performance. The G7 ThinQ has a Boombox Speaker that uses the internal space of the phone as a resonance chamber to give you double the bass of typical phones. The G7 ThinQ also includes DTS:S tech to give you virtual 3D sound for all content and a Hi-Fi Quad DAC for use with high-impedance headphones.

The LG G7 ThinQ's hardware features include a 6.1-inch 3120×1440 display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a display brightness that can get up to 1,000 nits. There are six viewing modes — Auto, Eco, Cinema, Sports, Game, and Expert — and LG notes that the bottom bezel on the G7 ThinQ is 50 percent smaller than the one found on the G6.

The G7 ThinQ is also the latest smartphone to have a display notch. LG calls it the "New Second Screen", and you can customize it in a few ways. You can fully expand the display for slim bezels, you can change the status bar color to personalize your phone, or you can hide the notch by turning the status bar black.

Other hardware specs of the LG G7 ThinQ include a Snapdragon 845 processor, 3000mAh battery, USB-C, wireless charging, FM radio, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, a rear fingerprint reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The standard G7 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, while the G7+ bumps things up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The body of the G7 ThinQ is IP68 water and dust resistant.

Rounding things out are the cameras. The dual rear camera setup of the LG G7 ThinQ is a 16MP standard lens with f/1.6 aperture and a 16MP wide angle lens with f/1.9 aperture. Around front there's an 8MP camera with f/1.9 aperture for all of your selfie needs.

The LG G7 ThinQ will launch with Android 8.0 Oreo, and it'll arrive in South Korea in the coming days. Expect launches in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia as well. In the U.S., Sprint and U.S. Cellular have said that they're launching the LG G7 ThinQ on June 1, while Verizon will open pre-orders on May 24. T-Mobile says that it'll launch the G7 ThinQ "later this spring".

The G7 ThinQ looks like a solid follow-up to the G6, boasting slimmer bezels and upgraded specs compared to its predecessor. With the focus that LG is placing on the G7 ThinQ's AI and audio features, we're looking forward to putting them to the test and seeing how they can help the G7 ThinQ stand out from the competition.

Now that it's official, what do you thing of LG's G7 ThinQ?
