Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge to Be Updated Directly to Android 7.1.1

android-nougat

Samsung opened up the Android 7.0 Nougat beta program for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge a while ago. But we've yet to see the new build roll out into the wild.

Now it seems that Samsung will update the two flagships directly to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. In response to a user inquiring about the Galaxy Beta Program, Samsung said the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will be updated to Android 7.1.1 Nougat directly.

For the time being only Pixel and some Nexus devices run Android 7.1.1 Nougat, so the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge could be the first non-Pixels to rock the new build.

We should remind you that the Android 7.1.1 is a minor update which brings feats such as a new set of emoji or app shortcuts from the home screen. Also users can launch apps like Twitter by long pressing the app icon, in what appears to simulate an effect like 3D Touch on Apple's iPhone.

The new build will mark the end of TouchWiz and the advent of the new Samsung Experience.

Samsung hasn't said anything about the date when the new build will start flying around, but hopefully it will be soon.

Another Android OEM, Sony said it is aiming to become the first company to release Android 7.1.1 Nougat for its devices.
