Verizon says that it won’t release update to disable Galaxy Note 7

Hot on the heels of Samsung announcing that it will be sending out an update to disable remaining Galaxy Note 7 units out in the wild in the United States, Verizon Wireless has news of its own to announce.

According to Verizon's statement, they will not send out the update that will disable the Galaxy Note 7. The carrier says that due to the holiday traveling season, it doesn't feel it's appropriate to disable some customers' only method of communication, especially for those who don't have another device to switch to readily available.

"We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders, or medical professionals in an emergency situation," Verizon said in their statement.

This is an interesting development. The Galaxy Note 7 has already proven to be a potential risk to owners and others, so Samsung sending out the update to disable the handset certainly makes sense. However, one can see where Verizon is coming from in this case, even if airlines are still blocking the Galaxy Note 7 from being allowed on planes.

What do you think of Verizon's decision?
