| Wireless carriers preinstall apps on devices all the time, but it looks like at least one of them is going to start changing the game. Deutsche Telekom, which is based in Germany and is the parent company of T-Mobile US, has announced that it is going to start allowing its customers to skip preinstalled applications on its smartphones. As a result, customers will be able to effectively opt-out of what's considered bloatware. There will be some changes set in place for a subscriber that boots up their new phone for the first time. Now, as they go through the setup process, they will be shown the wireless carrier's "recommended apps", of which they will be able to pick the ones they want to install. After they've done that and gone through the rest of the setup process, they will reboot the phone and the apps they chose to install will be on the handset, while the others will be skipped. Customers will also be able to delete the carrier apps they want at a later date if they change their mind. Here are the devices that this initiative supports out of the gate: Samsung's Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, and the Galaxy Note 8. Samsung's Galaxy A3 (2018) is also supported. Meanwhile, Huawei's P10 and P10 Plus are also supported, Sony's Xperia XZ1 Compact, the majority of Nokia's new Android handsets, and all of Google's Pixel smartphones. This is good news from Deutsche Telekom, and hopefully other carriers follow suit. At least hopefully T-Mobile does here in the States. What do you think of the DT's new initiative?
