Though still common, the heyday of tablets has come and gone, and tablets now gather far less interest than they once did. But tablets are still able to satisfy niche markets including education, business, and families seeking child-friendly devices. Samsung recognizes this demand and has announced the Galaxy Tab Active2, a tablet with specialized features intended to appeal to those in business and industry. Samsung has designed the Galaxy Tab Active 2 to be MIL-STD-810-certified, meaning that it meets military standards for durability during excessive pressure, temperatures, vibrations, and drops. It's also IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, making it a great ruggedized tablet for those working in extreme weather or dangerous environments, such as a factory. Samsung has even created a ruggedized S Pen to provide precision when using the tablet with gloves on or while the screen is wet.
Other tweaks for business include LTE connectivity, a replaceable battery, pogo pins for docked charging, front and rear cameras, and a touch screen with increased responsiveness for use with gloves on. Samsung's Knox security platform makes it suitable for customization to fit the company's needs, and Samsung is boasting its available applications for business uses including fleet management, barcode scanning, and inventory management. Key specs include an 8-inch 1280×800 display, octa-core 1.6GHz Exynos 7870 processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage plus a microSD card slot, 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, USB Type-C charging port, 4450mAh battery, and Android 7.1 Nougat. The Galaxy Tab Active2 is now available in the U.S. for $419.99 for the Wi-Fi version and $519.99 for the LTE version. Samsung is selling the device primarily for business use and is encouraging customers to get in contact to develop solutions for their business needs using the Galaxy Tab Active2′s customizable software.
