While Xiaomi is teasing a new high-end smartphone, the company is also working behind the scenes to expand its market identity all over the globe, which includes a concerted effort to enter the wireless marketing the United States. That's the company's goal, as it has been for quite some time, as stated by Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun at a recent legislative session in Beijing. As The Wall Street Journal reports, the executive said, "We've always been considering entering the U.S. market", but wouldn't go into any real detail on the idea or what those initiatives might look like moving forward. As far as a timeline goes, Xiaomi is apparently aiming to enter the market in late 2018, but it could see the fruition of those plans come to life in early 2019, too. Jun did admit that expanding internationally is a difficult task, but it doesn't look like that's slowing the company down at all. We have already seen the brand expand into Mexico back in 2017, which could serve as the gateway to expanding sales in Latin America as a whole. The original report points out that Xiaomi's struggles start with finding a U.S. wireless carrier that will work with the smartphone company. Xiaomi technically already sells internet-connected devices like speakers in the United States, but its smartphones are not a product readily available on digital store shelves in that part of the world just yet. Additionally, we've already seen companies like Huawei and ZTE see distinct pushback from the United States government, which Xiaomi may see in its own efforts to flourish in the U.S. wireless market. Still, it looks like Xiaomi has a plan, and it will be interesting to see if it pans out. Would you pick up a Xiaomi-branded smartphone if it launched on a U.S. carrier? Android Match
