Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge updated to Android 8.0 in the UK

If you are using a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge in the United Kingdom, then there's a bit of good news for you.

As first shared by folks on Reddit, it looks like both handsets are now being updated to Android 8.0 Oreo via an over-the-air (OTA) software update. The version number is G930FXXU2ERD5 for the Galaxy S7, and the Galaxy S7 edge's version number is G935FXXU2ERD5. The update measures in at 1.3GB, so make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi before you download and install the new software.

As far as what's new, Samsung is updating the aging handsets to the Samsung Experience 9.0, which means you'll get keyboard enhancements, a better Finder experience for improved search results, as well as picture-in-picture.

Unfortunately for owners outside of the UK, there is no word on when Android 8.0 Oreo will begin rolling out to other regions. However, as long as this OTA update process goes smoothly, it might not be long before Samsung starts updating Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge units outside of the UK.

Do you use a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge as your daily driver?
