LG G6 official with dual 13-megapixel rear cameras, Google Assistant built-in

MWC 2017 rolls on with the debut of another Android flagship.

The LG G6 was officially revealed in Barcelona today, and as expected, the device is all about its screen. The G6 is packing a 5.7-inch 2880×1440 display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, which makes it a bit taller than traditional 16:9 smartphone screens. LG says that this gives you more viewing space and a more immersive experience for videos and gaming.

The G6's display also includes Dolby Vision and HDR 10 technologies. Both are HDR (High Dynamic Range) standards, which help to give your display a wider angle of color for greater detail.

LG is also touting the G6 screen's design. The display is surrounding by slim bezels, making it easier to hold in one hand.

The body of the LG G6 differs from the LG G5 in that there's no modular design to be found here. Instead, LG has sealed up the G6's 3300mAh battery and made the entire phone water resistant, with the G6 getting an IP68 rating for resistance to both dust and water.

Inside the metal frame of the LG G6 is a Snapdragon 821 processor that's been paired with 4GB of RAM, 32/64GB of storage, a microSD slot for adding more storage, NFC, Quick Charge 3.0, and USB Type-C. There's a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top of the G6 and a fingerprint reader around back.

Speaking of the back of the G6, it's also home to the phone's dual rear camera system. Both are 13-megapixel cameras, but one has a standard 71-degree lens and OIS, while the other has a 125-degree wide angle view. The G6's 5-megapixel front camera has a wide angle lens, too, offering a 125-degree field of view.

The LG G6 comes preloaded with Android 7.0 and Google Assistant, making it one of the first non-Pixel phones to come preloaded with Assistant. LG has included some special software tweaks on the G6, like a Square Camera Mode that'll divide the G6's screen into two squares, letting you review your most recent photo on one side while capturing photos on the other. Also included is a GIF creator that'll combine between 2 and 100 photos from your gallery.

LG isn't saying much about the G6's launch date or pricing, but US carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have committed to offering the LG G6 this spring.

So that's the LG G6. Overall it looks like a solid upgrade from the LG G5, abandoning the modular feature that didn't really seem to gain much traction and instead focusing on usability. LG worked to pack a large screen in a small body by slimming the bezels on the G6 and it added dust and water resistance, a feature that'll help protect the phone from everyday life and is becoming a requirement on flagship phones. Now we just have to wait for the G6 to launch so we can fully put it to the test.
