The market for voice assistants is heating up, and a new report suggests Huawei is jumping on the bandwagon as well. Bloomberg says that Huawei is hard at work on a new voice assistant for smartphones. The company allegedly has upwards of 100 engineers working on the project, with a focus on the Chinese market. Specifically, Huawei wants its proprietary digital personal assistant to offer Chinese language support. Meanwhile, Huawei will use Google Assistant and Amazon's Alexa outside of China. While Huawei's effort may be smaller in scope than what we're seeing from competing companies, it's yet another company that wants to build its own services rather than completely rely on other options.
